One key opens everything you should open. Every other key opens exactly its own doors and nothing else. Designed, pinned and installed by locksmiths who have been building them in Brisbane since 1999.
A master key system is a designed hierarchy of keys, not a box of locks. At the bottom, each door has its own change key. Above that, a master key opens every door in the system. Bigger sites add a level in between — a sub-master for each floor, wing or tenancy — and a grand master above the lot. The design work is in the progression chart: choosing pin depths so that every key on the schedule opens precisely the doors it should, and is blocked everywhere else, with no accidental "phantom" openings.
Want to see what that chart looks like? We built a free master key system designer that runs in your browser — add your doors, pick your sub-masters, and it generates and proves the whole system on screen.
A master key system on an ordinary keyway still works — but any change key can be copied at a shopping-centre kiosk, so you never really know how many keys exist. A restricted system uses patented blanks that only the issuing locksmith can legally cut, and only against your written authority. Every key is numbered and logged in an issuance register. When a staff member leaves and hands their key back, the register tells you exactly how many are still out: none.
Systems are priced per system, not per door off a menu. The number of doors, restricted versus standard keyway, whether your existing cylinders can be re-pinned or need replacing, and how many keys you want cut are what move the price. You get one written quote before anything is ordered, and the quote is the price — no bait-and-switch, no surprise extras on the invoice.
